Summertime snow in the arctic

I know summer snow in the arctic is not unheard of. However, I see that Eureka, N.W.T. (Canada) has been reporting snow showers much of the day. Late July and August are typically snow free (I'm talking precipitation, not what's still left on the ground), with snow reports typically starting to return late in August or early September in far northern Canada. Not sure of what implications this may have for what kind of winter lies in store for use. Of course, with the hot summer Russia is having, maybe the warm air there has shoved the colder polar air over to this side of the hemisphere.

Not all that surprising considering the trough in the area.

And Eureka is WAY up north in the Queen Elizabeth Islands of Nunavut.
