I snapped several unusual cloud formations on this particular afternoon, but this one still has me puzzled. The 'starship' was shooting out from the cloud in the background; I have a couple of other pics that show its development if needed.

NO!!! It's definitely alien cloking technology...I know it for sure.

Interesting shot.

Yeah, I think it was at least on its way to becoming an orphan anvil. I stood there and watched the anvil pour up and out of the clouds behind exactly like steam coming out of the spout of a kettle. Here's another crazy looking anvil that was in the sky at the same time, looking wnw. You can barely see the cloud that's producing it.

I would concur with "orphan anvil". It looks like your photo was taken towards sunset, given the angle of the sunlight in the photos. That frequently means disintegrating and dying thunderstorms as the loss of daytime heating depletes the storms fuel.

Klingon Cloaking Device??

Obviously you all are not Star Trek fans!! That is a Klinglon Bird of Prey right before it goes to warp. Beam Me Up Scotty!! :D
