Is there any information on whether or not the SPC will be putting out information during a government shutdown if it should occur tonight? Will they and the NWS still operate?

From what I have heard...SPC, NWS are considered essential employees and they will continue working when the government shutsdown later tonight. They'll be backpaid when the government gets up and running again.

The NWS is essential and will keep on doing what they do. The biggest change is that outsiders (Skywarn, tours, etc) cannot go into the offices during a shutdown.

I got an email from a the TV met I work for, who had received an email from the NWS, basically, they will have only the minimum staffing present for the shifts and they will not be able to call anyone in during big events. I am assuming the SPC will have similar staffing reductions.

Almost exactly the same thing I got with my inquiries and help with Howard Bernstein (WUSA) regarding LWX (DC/Balt. WFO).

Great timing, what with the potentially significant outbreaks expected this weekend.
