• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

    I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

    For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

    From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

It looks like a close bolt has shut down my reliable and trusty HP Pavilion. Nothing else here was affected, including other electronics on the same surge protector, and the cable modem is working (typing this on my antique desktop that I never disposed of and which miraculously fired right up after sitting a long time. Wow--Windows 98!).

The HP is receiving power as indicated by the blue light surrounding the AC connector, but it will not power up. Does anyone know if there is protective circuitry on these that can be reset by a tech?

Try unplugging it from the wall and remove the battery and let it sit for a good minute and then try to power it on.

Just on a whim, Try unplugging the laptop and removing the battery. Then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds solid.

Then go ahead and put the battery back in and plug it back in and see if it will power back up. If that doesn't work, you may try it without putting the battery back in as well.. Just with AC. The battery might be the culprit.

Jason and Jerry, you nailed it!

Took the battery out, unplugged power, held the button for 30 seconds, replugged without battery and it came right on. Powered down, replaced the battery and it still works.

Thanks for being there, guys--I was really getting nervous with a trip to New England coming up in two days.

You are VERY lucky.

I had the similar problem back in 2004 and the battery and charging circuit were both damaged (Sony Vaio).

If you inserted a new battery, the damaged circuit would "hose" that battery too (my chase partner was not happy after he tried HIS battery) ;-P

It was (only) $1,100 to send it into Sony and fix that, but luckily still under warranty, so it did not cost anything (except my chase partner having to relace the battery he "tried" in it).
