For those that are not familiar with Santa Ana Winds. I made a small write up on how they occur. All pictures and information is credited to the National Weather Service of San Diego.

The following Combination is needed to produce a true Santa Ana event.

1.A low pressure develops over the coast and a strong high pressure develops over the great basin.

2.Strong winds aloft come from the northeast.

3.Great temperatures differences aloft develop.

When these conditions are present, humidity levels drop to the single digits. Currently we are at 8%. Winds gust can reach up to 100 mph in the canyons and mountains. Santa Ana's are so dangerous because they create perfect conditions for wildfires. Back in Oct 2007, wildfires broke out in southern California. San Diego alone had to evacuate over 1 million people.
