I am also running an RM Young anemometer but I also run this with a wind tracker as well – this give me an instant readout while I am in the car etc.
During non storm times the anemometer is mounted to my house – again I use the wind tracker to display reading but I also wanted to connect to to my PC – I got hold of a cheap A/D circuit board (£35) I then wrote some software (you can have a copy if you want) so that I can display the output on a PC as well as store the values inside a database.
Only because the Windtracker produces a 0-5Volt output (0 -100mph). and a 0 - 5V (0-360) direction
It is this output that I pass through the A/D conver and then on to USB where I can read it on the PC.
I *think* that you will struggle with out the wind tracker as the wind speed is some sort of requency mesurement and the direction is some sort of resistor - the wind tracker take care of this this and gives you a display as well
Thanks for the info Stuart. I sure was hoping to avoid spending the cash on Windtracker, but I virtually stole this 09101 on Ebay, so I guess I can't complain.
