All,

Hopefully not too far off topic, a German fellow managed to image a phenomenon called Red Sprites that associated with Thunderstorm Activity. Apparently these are quite elusive.

Taken with a very sensitive Cooled CCD Camera (Monochrome with a Red Filter).

And a technical discussion on the subject:

Anyone seen these visually ? Or catch them using a traditional DSLR ?

Regards

Bill

I've seen it once when I was camping on a mountain top. It was a complex of thunderstorms some distance off to the west. It fired off a couple of those over an hour or so. (Might have been more. I was, um, preoccupied with, well let's just say important sociological studies. :D )

Never caught one on camera and I know precisely NOTHING about them. Definitely an interesting phenomenon.
