I must admit, I have been impressed with the recent Weather Channel coverage of the severe storms across the Plains. Mike Bettes and Dr. Greg Forbes are traveling along with VORTEX and have had some interesting discussion and analysis of severe weather, tornado formation and damage. At the same time, I have enjoyed detailed analysis of radar images in the studio by Jim Cantore. The OCM's were even talking about the beauty of storms other than the tornado. Best coverage I have seen.

I agree..I am very impressed..its been informative and interesting. Hmmm lets hope this continues on further events througout the season and Summer. I've been glued to TWC for the first time in a long time..

Hmmmm, as much as I hate to admit this but I kinda have to agree. I hardly ever watch the Weather Channel, even during hurricane coverage. However, for a moment there I felt like I was actually watching a channel dedicated to weather. They actually went around 45 minutes in a row without a commercial during one stretch.

It has been pretty good, my only complaint is that the camera man zooms in way too much, to the point where you don't really see anything, and can't even tell what's going on.

This is the first time I can remember a positive thread about TWC. Ever. If TWC ever did really focus on weather again, it's the one thing that would make me miss getting rid of cable. The combination of Dr. Forbes-Bettes-Cantore focused on convective forecasts is very strong ... I'm sure the politics of the past have constrained them, but they are very capable people. I'm glad to hear this! One time several years back Dr. Forbes made a really cool comment about some of my footage they used on the air, and ever since then I've thought he was the shiz ... LOL.

Ok, here it is from a girls perspective. Dr. Forbes needs to keep the ballcap:) Seriously, he is like the coolest guy ever since he has gone on the road with Vortex 2. I have learned alot the past few days. I am impressed because I never watch TWC and this week I've been glued to it. Keep him out on the road....he's funny, makes good wisecracks and even knows a bit about the weather. Rock on Dr. Forbes!

I watched TWC after Monday’s tornado outbreak and it kept my attention for the good part of an hour. I did have a personal interest because I chased that day but the coverage was good nonetheless. However, someone should tell Dr. Forbes that a wedge-shaped tornado is not a wedge tornado. Last year he erroneously referred to the Goshen tornado as a wedge while the video on the screen showed otherwise. He made the same error Monday as they showed video of the tornado that was approaching Norman, wedge-shaped yes but definitely not a wedge.

I have to wholeheartedly agree about this being one of the first positive threads regarding TWC in a good long while. I watch TWC regularly and am definitely not on the bandwagon that they are worthless and not worth watching. I found it interesting and enlightening when Jim Cantore was getting all excited last night about a "donut" on GR2AE and Dr. Forbes telling him it was a BWER (Bounded Weak Echo Region) and explaining what that term means. I actually broke out Tim's Severe Forecasting handbook to look it up as I am certainly no radar expert and wanted to learn more. I do enjoy Dr. Forbes talking in terms that aren't so dumbed down that even us storm chasers can enjoy it. Keep up the good work TWC!!

Yeah, they've made a good effort this season. Maybe some of these severe storms concepts are starting to catch on in their audience. When I hear TWC actually talk about terms like the EHI, rear flank downdrafts, etc. and do several phoners each day with chasers -- it's definitely an improvement from their overall trend over the last decade or so.

BTW, I was glad they brought Kim Perez on the air in the afternoon hours of this past Monday's storms....she's pretty sharp, and definitely an upgrade from that Vivian.

I agree TWC is better now than it has been in a very long time. I had pretty much stopped watcning it due to their emphasis on entertainment, on air idiots, and other inane and redundent programs. I wish they would stick to reporting the weather as opposed to showing Storm Stories or some "golf forecast". And I see they are showing MOVIES on Fridays. "Volcano" this evening???? That is depressing, will they switch to live coverage of severe Wx in the middle of that? Personally that is pathetic. Oh well....

They were good during the V2 project last year as well. I'm sure when V2 is finished they'll revert back to their "regular" programming.
