• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

One of the things I like about ST is the use of real names; currently in the 'Equipment' section there is a name that is not real or ,to say the least most unusual. (DawidWeatherChaser, joined in July 2009...)

Is this an exception? or is it real?

5. Real names. We require the use of real names. First names may optionally be initialized. Pseudonyms are permitted to allow users a measure of privacy, but we reserve the right to terminate an account if a user is publicizing their use of a pseudonym, is using a famous name, or is using the pseudonym as a sockpuppet account or to circumvent a ban.

I don't think it's an exception. last I heard, members like that would be weeded out for not having a real name. I'm sure a mod will see this and take care of it.

DawidWeatherChaser has been suspended for violation of the username policy.

Being that this user paid money to join this forum, I would hope that you would give him a chance to correct it instead of just banning him without warning. So what if he wants to rejoin? Will he now have to pay again?

I guess there is no longer a check (if there ever was) of new users before being approved. I think I remember reading that.

I suspect it might have been a rushed sign-up, and may be he might try to resign up. I know years ago I messed that up (although it may have been allowed back then...going back to 2002 or something like that).

I don't think this user posted anything bad, right?

Since when is there no application to get registered for ST? that kinda defeats the purpose of having a "chasers" forum if you don't have an application process. No wonder things have gone down hill so fast.

I think he should have to pay again. If he can't read the rules right the first time, that's nobody's fault but his.

Don't accounts get approved before they become members? If so then the mods and admin dropped the ball and apparently don't even know the rules they're suppose to enforce by accepting someone as a new member who isn't using a real name.

The person paid $5 or whatever the new membership fee is, do they get a refund? Personally, if someone is paying to be a member than they should be able to use whatever alias they want, but whatever. Apparently suspending and banning people is the only thing mods can do.

Why Joey, you certainly pose a wonderful question IMO. I wonder if you will get a real answer????:D

Doubt it, the thread will probably just end up getting locked and I'll get an infraction. How dare I question the mods. It just seemed to me that if someone with an alias got approved for membership here than the only person at fault are the mods and admin who approved it knowing it wasn't a real name. But you know how the old saying goes, the s**t rolls down the hill and ultimately the member with the alias got crapped on by the same mods and admin who approved his account.

I'm in the process of trying to send Dawid an email regarding this. For the record, the approval/disapproval process is something setup by Tim V. He has been trying out different methods for the approval process in an attempt to lessen the workload on himself. I don't know the technical details about how it is set up, but the mods don't have access to it, probably because of the amount of server access it gives us.

Thanks Chris for the reply.

Good day all,

How about my name (from way back when I joined ST years ago), its "cdcollura", maybe someone can change it to "Chris Collura"?

Just wondering...

To complete registration, a new user encounters two warnings and a checkbox that must be marked affirming that the user is aware of the policy on real names. The responsibility for due diligence on this simple detail lies with the user, and failing to comply tells us that they may have also skipped past our guidelines and terms of service.

In the past it was policy to delete nickname and handle accounts on sight because they occurred often and were usually buried with other nickname/handle applications by spambots. It was surprising how many people simply didn't bother to read. There was also not the time to sift through a constant stream of this and deal with a back + forth to try to fix each incident (which is kludgy and slow on the vBulletin user admin panels) and we also had to see to it they were aware their login+pw combination changed too. It was better to just zap the account and let the user go again.

The $5 membership does make this more complicated since we are obligated to honor the membership or provide a refund. Currently we suspend the account temporarily until the matter is resolved, otherwise "wxfunnel9582" and "kb8dxq" would start posting and we'd have to field complaints from users about their posts. This is not a punitive suspension and the person does not lose their account.

I hope that explains things a bit better.

Tim
