Let's say I click on "Chaser Bar & Grill" because the icon is orange, showing me it has new posts. Then, I read the post, and go back to the main stormtrack page. If i scroll down to Bar & Grill, it is still in orange, and I have to click on it another time to enter the bar&grill "room" so the software can see there is no new posts. Then, if I go back to the main ST forums, everything's fine, the icon is ok (no new posts).

Am I the only one to deal with this? Is there a way to fix this?

I think I understand what you're saying, and this one's been bugging me for quite some time. If I read a new post (either by going into the subforum and clicking on that thread or by clicking on the latest post in that subforum on the main forum page), then go back to the main forum page, it quite often indicates that there are still unread threads in that subforum. Even if I refresh/reload, it still gives me the orage icon for that subforum, even though I just read/opened the respective thread. I've tried resetting my cookies too, but some deal. I can only think that it has something to do w/ the software, but I don't know how the forum knows which threads have new posts in them... If anyone knows, Is it a comparison of times (time of new post vs. time I was last in that thread)?

It compares the post times with your cookies. Your cookies tell it when the last time you were on the forum was, and marks stuff new that has been posted since then. That's how it knows anyway what to mark new.

I don't know about that think you guys are talking about though might be some sort of time difference between the forum's official time, and the user's computer's time.

When you go back to the main page, do you use the Back button? If you do that, your browser just reloads the page from the temp files, and it should appear the same as the last time. If you use the link under the banner, it downloads the latest version of the page. I usually use the link for this reason.
On another forum I go to often, I will use the Back button to get to the forum index page because that page is long, I have gone to a post that is down past the first screen, and I want to go back to the spot on the page where I accessed the thread.

For me, it makes no difference. For example, I read your post, then clicked on the "STORMTRACK" link near the top of the page (beneath Mike's pic / ST Logo) to bring me back to the main forum. Unfortunately, the orange "new post" icon was still present alongside "Stormtrack Site Issues". Even if I do a force refresh (shift+refresh or shift+crtl+r), it still indicates a new post. Oh well. Most of the time, I need to enter the thread twice in order for the new post icon to go away. Other times, I can view the new post, back out to the main forum, go back into that subforum, then back into the main forum, and the new post icon will finally remove itself. Oh well.

The exact same thing is happening to me.
Jeff, are you using Firefox, or IE? I am using Firefox, and it may be the source of the problem?

Sometimes when I go back to a forum index or the main page, I will notice a new post is indicated in the area I was just in, but it's because someone just posted while I reading the thread. The time stamp usually tells me that.
