Ram-Mount Users: Quick Photo?

All the photos I've been able to find of a Ram-Mount laptop desk have concentrated on the driver's use. Would someone who has one of the no-drill units (ideally, one installed in a Caravan or similar), be so kind as to shoot a photo for me of it in use -- with the passenger viewing the screen?

Basically, I'm wanting to know how high the telescoping pole will go and whether I can swing it over to sit straight in front of me in the passenger seat. I'm a fairly big guy ;-)

Thanks a bunch!

Probably going to vary depending on vehicle, I just installed mine in an 08 Milan, and to be honest there isn't a whole lot of room for somebody on the passenger side... No pictures now that its dark and I'm on my way out the door shortly, maybe tomorrow I'll snap one...

FWIW on mine, the pole goes really high, in fact higher than you would ever want, unless you wanted to block the entire windshield view to your right...

You have to watch your knees, but I have not found anyone who can't fit over there with the ram mount in place. I will try and dig up some pictures I took a while back to see if I have any of what your looking for. The pole goes as high as you would ever want it to. I can easily have my laptop positioned above my gearshift on my jeep. Thats pretty high. The ram mount is probably one of the best things I have ever bought for chasing.

To be honest, I would probably just have whoever is riding in the passenger seat hold the laptop due to airbag concerns. If you get into a front-impact crash, both the laptop and the mount will likely end up hitting the passenger's chest, neck, and/or head. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of having the mount, but for me, safety always comes first.

I always found the mount to be much more useful when I was by myself. It held the laptop securely and kept it from falling out of the seat during hard braking maneuvers. Unfortunately, I don't really have room in my new Liberty to install it.

Thats is exactly why I like having the ram mount and being able to put it above my gearshift area. No body is going to die from the laptop or the mount. Here are a few pics of my ram mount. I dont have it extend up very far and if I get some time tomorrow I may take a few. I need to get a few anyways with everything setup.

I have switched my Ram Mount from a Subaru Forrester to my Honda Ridgeline. You can order different lengths of the pole. It is very adjustable for my use or my partners use. Also having the laptop in the mount is much safer than having it loose. I have seen many mounted laptops have the screen broken by airbag deployment but they never became a loose flying object.

I have two RAM mounts, one in a 2007 Tahoe and the other in a 1998 Chevy K1500... Both are no drill mountings and both allow the computer to be positioned out of the prime air bag deployment area.

The Tahoe's center post is mounted in the corner by the jump seat on the passenger side, The pick-up on the corner of the drivers side by the console. Both allow good positions for viewing while out of the direct fire line of the air bag, which is not the case when the laptop is in the passengers lap.

UPDATE... I HAVE BEEN GETTING READY FOR THE DENVER TRIP AND RE-EVALUATED THE AIR BAG SITUATION IN MY TAHOE. Depending on the passenger's preferred viewing location, the laptop could be in the problem area. It is off to the side but not completely out of the path in some of the better angles...

We were among the first to use GPS driven map programs and my wife has burn marks on her body from the heated up laptop. The first RAM mount was purchased to alleviate this problem, The second because the first one worked out so well.

One of my friends, the one that made me aware of the RAM mounts, could not find a standard issued base for his vehicle so the RAM folks made him one at the same cost as some of the other bases. I have had very good responses from that group and orders are delivered as promised.

BTW, their downloadable catalog has a lot of photos in it...

Hey Wesley what is that thing that you have attached to your laptop desk? and where did you pick it up? Is it a Ram Mount part?

It looks like the bottom of their gooseneck lamp. I haven't decided whether to get one yet or not.

All, thanks for the photos. They have been a tremendous help. I'm thinking strongly about positioning the base in between the seats...or at least about where the Jeniko is now...just to the left of the passenger seat. That way it can sit in the middle out of the way. I have more room now that I found another locaiton for the mini-tower.

It is a stabilizer for the laptop screen. It helps alot. I cant remember where I bought it, but is a Ram Mount official part. I would check ebay first. You could probably make one pretty easy too.

I purchased the screen stabilizer along with the RAM mount: it does take some shake out of the screen.

I also purchased the goose neck USB powered lamp. My air card and web cam take up the two USB slots I have. When I add the USB unpowered ports, things start acting funny. So I have a choice of streaming video or a USB powered light.

BTW, I was able to purchase a '12 volt to 19 volt' power supply for the Dell laptop and that eliminates the RF noise generating inverters I have been using. I was a little leery about the similar unit available from Ram. I think it was more for the 'ToughBook' laptop line. I bought mine directly from Dell.

There is also an accessory tray available from RAM that holds the power unit quite well.

toys toys toys...I love'em...:D
