• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Radar images request

Yes, the radar data there isn't already in a graphical format. You have to untar the files and load them into radar viewing software. Let me know if you need more details.

Thank you Nick, but I didn't understand what to do yet:) I've got the GRlevel softwere(trial) but when I download the tar file I don't know how to load the file..

In the meanwhile, if anyone has got the radar images in jpeg,he could post'em;)

you have ot download the .tar file and "untar" it... most zip/unzip programs will do this. then you should have a batch of .Z files... load those into GRlevel3

1. Install Digital Atmosphere (weathergraphics.com).
2. Map > Generate > Station: HLC, scale 230 nm.
3. Map > Overlay > Counties > Outlines.
4. Map > Copy Markings To Basemap.
5. File > Preferences > General > Radar Source Override > Texas A&M Archive.
6. Radar > Set NEXRAD Station > KGLD KDDC .
7. Radar > Set Date-Time > uncheck "current", set to May 22, time to 23:00.
8. Radar > Base Reflectivity. You may have to wait a minute if TAMU server is slow. Ouila!

Of course I have a vested interest in the software since I wrote it. It's a lot easier than messing around with NCDC tarballs.

Tim-

I have D.A. installed but my trial period is up so some of the features are disabled. I'm trying to bring up archived radar by following the steps above. The only step I cannot complete is #2.

After skipping that step, I get down to #8 and the data transfers over OK, but it doesn't display any radar data, just a black rectangle in the top left corner and it says "Base Reflexivity 0.5 deg SFC NOERR - Input file not compressed, so it was copied to output!"

Do I need the full version do view archived data?
