Is anyone aware of an iPad or Android app that uses GPS Satellite reception for high quality radar instead of using the cell connection?

I have seen multiple plug-in GPS devices e.g., Bad Elf, that will deliver satellite radar for aircraft, but it appears there are no maps for ground use. As we know, using a cell connection for radar is risky and depends on cell coverage and bandwidth availability.

It would be great to have a satellite radar overlay on popular mapping products for handheld and tablet devices.

Thanks in advance:

Yes, thanks for the link but I believe this unit only works with aviation mapping apps. In addition, it's a very expensive option since it requires the $99.00 per month weather package that XM no longer allows you to put on vacation, so you are stuck with a year service for only a few months of usage.

I am assuming the only company that offers high res. satellite-generated radar is XM, so you are stuck paying their monopoly prices.

We were working on this one for tablets using Baron's MobileLink:

Something you might think about is the Bushnell Onix 400 GPS. It is a handheld device that receives WX and music via XM satellite.

It looks like the Baron app project is no longer active? The last post was almost a year ago.

I'm am in the process of writing a review on satellite-derived radar and Baron reps. tell me there is no app?
