• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Question regarding New Posts feature

Perhaps I am not following the right protocol. I make frequent use of the New Posts button when checking ST. A full lineup will manifest, but will disappear after I check out a couple threads and hit the back button, or if I post in one of them. Is it necessary to read all new posts of interest within a time limit, or before replying to one of them? Thanks.

I think the issue here is once you have viewed the "New Posts" page vBulletin now thinks that you have seen them all and removes them from the list to reduce clutter. What I would recommend doing is holding down CTRL and click on the posts you want to read and/or respond to. By doing so you will open them in new tabs with out having to hit back or reload the page and worry about clearing it out.

A similar issue came up in another thread about searching and tabbed browsing seems like the solution to me. The threads I am interested in reading I right click on them and choose "open in new tab" from the alternate context menu, that way you never lose your source page (e.g. the new posts tab). I hope this makes sense but if not let me know and I'll explain it more in depth. Are you using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or something else and which version?

I'm using IE (sorry, Jesse--fumbled your question). I'll learn to use the new tabs technique--thanks, Mark. I don't know if it will help with the premature dumping of the new posts (after reading several pages of a thread, for example), but I'll try it out.

EDIT: However, on this one I was allowed to post the above response, then return to the full listing of new posts. Hmmm...

If you keep the main tab intact (New Posts) and never move away from there, you won't lose the page you want to preserve (New Posts). On each thread that you are interested in reading or perusing right click the thread, then select "Open In New Tab" from the menu. This will open the thread in a new tab where you can read it. Once you are done you can close the tab, then you'll still have the New Posts tab there to select your next thread from. Hopefully you're using at least version 7 of IE, if not version 8.

You can also adjust tab behavior by going to the Tools menu, choosing the very bottom selection (Internet Options), and when that opens up look or select the far left tab called "General". Toward the bottom there is a button labeled "Settings" under the Tabs category where you can adjust the behavior of tabs and so forth. I think once you use this feature you will never look back!

Also, if you find having to right click items and using a drop down menu annoying you can do what I suggested early and hold CTRL when you click a link to make it open in a new tab.

That is a nice keyboard shortcut for viewing the thread in a new tab. That is officially in my arsenal now.
