Post Editing "time limit"

I just discovered there's a very finite amount of time allowed for editing posts. The message I got said I had expired my allowed time period (7 minutes) for editing. The mistake I was trying to fix was not a typo but actually incorrect information. Most times when I have to edit a post, it's well after the fact as I'm proof-reading; I rarely catch them in real time. Any way we could lift this 7-minute editing window?

This, in my opinion, is the biggest failure of the new forum software to improve upon the previous iteration. This needs to be fixed, and soon.

I couldn't find the option to turn on a Facebook-like edit history. The documentation says it's there, I just couldn't locate it. I went in just now and set the edit window to 2000 minutes (~33 hours) for the time being.

I think the edit time limit should go away as well - but there needs to be at least an edit history there. The purpose is to keep someone from going in and deleting half of their posts in a long thread to where no one can follow the conversation, or keep someone from starting what turns into a long thread, then deleting their original post (we've had many of those).

Explain exactly why anyone would need to go back and retract or alter any post after a period of a few minutes.
I'll make a final decision based on the feedback I get to this question.

Sometimes it takes more then few minutes to clear ones mind and correct their irrational thoughts that once sounded good to reply with. Or get the wrong information from a supposedly legit outlet/source. A broken link. Wrong person posting on another username. Going back and reading rules of the forum and realizing what they posted was against the rules set. A picture or video they posted not having a watermark to secure their product/art. Fat fingers, misspelling, change of opinion, wording paragraph wrong, children getting a hold of the keyboard..etc...

Stuff happens. Some might want to change it after a few mins.

Another example:

I have been gradually adding images to the Media section. Initially, I was titling them with whatever questionably clever title I'd given them in my Smugmug and Flickr accounts. But I came to the realization I want to start putting the event date in the title for easier/quicker reference when images are being browsed. I am doing that moving forward, but it would be nice to go back and update the older ones to be consistent without bugging a moderator about it.

That same principle could apply in other areas I believe.

I just screw up a lot, and sometimes it takes a while to find them all. Or, as in my particular case that prompted me to start this thread, I had posted inaccurate information (going from memory) and then a while after making the post, realized my mistake.

It's not a deal breaker or anything, I just assumed it was some type of default setting with the software that could be changed or deleted with a mouse click. I know text speak and abbreviating everything is how people write these days, but I'm old school. I did well in English and grammar. I take pride in my posts looking like I'm not an idiot. But, like I said, if it's an issue on the admin side of things, no sweat. I'll just roll with it.

I could go either way. Though I have found for resource type threads or other, nice to be able to have the first posts (initial post) indefinitely available to edit. An example to this is keep a list of chasers instagram accounts or blogs (I know the new site has other ways to show that, just using as an example).

But if the time limit is kept, perhaps closer to 15 minutes. I often don't get back to threads for about that length of time (I'm a multi-tab kinda person).
