NWS Norman/OUN Now on FACEBOOK

The National Weather Forecast Office in Norman, OK has now jumped on board the Facebook train. Just search US National Weather Service Norman in the search bar on Facebook and click "Like".

Personally, I think this will be a complete disaster as Norman is the mecca of all things weather.

Many Other Offices Have Joined As Well

Most of the offices in the plains have or will have brand new facebook pages very soon. The facebook pages for the NWS offices are still in experimental phase, but they can be very helpful in getting reports back to the office. Real-time reports would still be better served coming into the office via Spotter Network or a phone call since the FB pages may not be monitored by the offices during events, but post event reports are always appreciated by the offices especially with attached photos or youtube links. It can also be a handy way to submit reports from just about any smartphone using the FB application. Here are just a few offices (of many more) that have official FB pages already.

And be sure to check Facebook periodically for more offices. This is a fairly recent development so some offices may not be up and running yet, but will be shortly.

The Amarillo NWS just put up a FB page last week.

Little Rock NWS put up a Facebook page recently as well. My favorite post so far was a woman who posted her zip code on their wall. I guess she thought she'd receive a forecast.
