I took these near Hutchinson, Mn on 3/17/15 around 2-3am. First time trying to catch them on camera. I must say they look about perfect. I've been fortunate enough to be able to witness these 4 or 5 times in my life and its still just as amazing. Pictures hardly do it justice.

Nice!
I mentioned in a previous post I started to head to Minnesota (from central Iowa) last night in hopes of finding clearer skies, but eventually turned back when it didn't look like the cloud deck was going to break. If I had known there were clear enough skies in your area, I would have driven that far to see it and get pics. Congrats on the nice catch!
Ben Holcomb's friend Jari got some insanely good photos last night from Finland, where it was already nightfall as this storm peaked. So jealous!

I love seeing a good geomagnetic storm just as much as an atmospheric storm. But the northern lights are very rare here in Central Illinois, occurring maybe twice a year. I was lucky enough to see them twice on St. Patricks Day. At 3AM they were mostly red. The aurora was at its best during the day and Europe saw a great show. By evening it was still visible here but it didn't last long.
@Ethan Schisler your time lapse looks a lot like the one I took. We must have been shooting at the same time.

Excellent shots! This event enabled me to get a few items checked off including a long elusive Midwest aurora scene that I would be pleased with as well as night sky and star trails over Lake Shelbyville, Shelbyville Illinois.
