For those of you who fly in for chasecations and bring a carry-on bag full of gear, the TSA has a new hoop for you to jump through -- every piece of equipment needs to be unpacked for separate screening, similar to the current rules for laptops.

"To ensure the security of airline passengers and the nation’s airports, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing new, stronger screening procedures for carry-on items that require travelers to place all electronics larger than a cell phone in bins for X-ray screening in standard lanes."

You are exempt from this additional screening if you are enrolled in TSA Pre-check and using a TSA Pre-check lane.

Thanks for the info Darren. I have the pre-check and I highly recommend it, well worth the price in my opinion.

Do they also get you through TSA security with less requirements and a dedicated line which is what TSA Precheck does?

Yes. You get TSA PreCheck with both Global Entry and Nexus. Global Entry requires an interview with Customs & Border Patrol at most major airports across the US and requires a big background check. Arrests, drug charges, etc will disqualify you from Global Entry and Nexus.

Global Entry comes with PreCheck and fast entry into the US through dedicated customs lanes when entering the USA

Nexus comes with PreCheck, fast entry into the US through dedicated customs lanes, Canadian version of precheck, and fast entry into Canada through dedicated customs lanes and a car swipe and drive thru at driving border crossings. The downside to Nexus is that it has to be processed at one of Canada's major airports or north border cities in the US.

If I traveled a lot via plane, I would consider it. I have TSA PreCheck without any extra hoops if I fly with SouthWest (which I usually do) and no extra fees, so, probably not worth it for me to go for Global Entry or Nexus ... but, yeah ... for those that fly a lot, sounds well worth it.

Regardless of which one is best for you, they're a definite advantage to have when going through security. PreCheck is available through many smaller airports. I'll be getting Global Entry this year, but will have to get it at DFW which is the closest major airport to me where it's available.
