Hello All,

First off I would like to say hello to all of you here at Stormtrack and express my amusement with my new membership. I am a southeastern MN native who has always enjoyed the dynamics of weather, however it wasn't until June 17 of last year in which my enjoyment became a passion. I am sure many of you recall the mayhem on 6/17 of last year. I was traveling home from work when a massive wedge tornado reared over a hill just west of Clarks Grove, MN. This experience compelled me to become an avid weather enthusiast and it was this spring (May 19-26) in which a fellow storm chaser and I had our first extended storm chase on the great plains of CO, KS, OK, MO, and TN. Witnessing these beautiful and highly dangerous storms provided an excitement like no other. As a 5th year student and SkyWarn spotter hailing (no pun intended) from Duluth, MN, being able to procure wx reports and information provides me with an unmatched enjoyment.

I would like to ask the members here if you have any recommendations for hard copies regarding weather forecasting and chasing resources. My first purchased weather book, Tim Vasquez's Storm Chasing Handbook has proved invaluable and I would like to extend my collection beyond that of bookmarked online websites. DVD's? Other books? Thank You!

Cheers,

Abe Holland

Welcome, Abe. There are a lot of really fine folks in here, and I'm sure you'll find a copious amount of material to read in the archived area. Best of luck! Joel in Tucson

Abe,

Welcome to Stormtrack and I hope your stay is enjoyable.

At the top of this section is a thread called 'A List Of Learning Resources' that you may have looked in. If not, there are a lot of items and websites displayed that I'm sure you will find informative as well as interesting.

Welcome to the site. On top of the books mentioned... just read around the site. ALOT of seasoned chasers here who are full of knowledge and always willing to help answer questions no matter how "stupid" you think they may be. We've all started at the same point.

Welcome Abe. It's always great to see someone new first discovering their passion for weather and chasing. You should love it here.

Thanks all for the warm welcome and tips! It's been quite helpful perusing the archives and links- h ave found some great resources, and also a rather peculiar one:
http://charles-chandler.org/Geophysics/Tornadoes Main.php
- Regarding a hypothesis on the supposed electromagnetic nature of tornadoes, an odd but intriguing read.

Also, Adam, I will most definitely be purchasing the MN Mayhem DVD. This was the event that spurred my passion for chasing and spotting. Do you recall chasing the wedge that snuck past the town of Clarks Grove (just north of Albert Lea)? I look forward to seeing the footage!

Abe
