New GOES?

Does anyone know when a knew GOES satellite will go into service? Will it be higher resolution and send new images more frequently? Is this something they're already working on?

Isn't the current one beginning to age a bit?

I think we're going to be seeing some very cool satellite images someday when they send better and better satellites into orbit.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I haven't read or heard anything about this in a long time.

Five years with BIG improvements... Much higher resolution, more frequent updates, better soundings, live lightning, etc.
