Need help with my scanner

I just purchased a uniden bct15x scanner, but now I'm realizing I have no idea how to program it. The instructions it came with are online and they aren't much help, it also came with a cable to connect it to my computer but when I connect it the computer doesn't see it. So I'm wondering if anyone can help me get it programed?

You computer is probably not recognizing the com port, OR the scanner's com port isn't properly set up. You need to go in and set the com port and baud rate on the scanner's outgoing com port that you are using (front or rear), and ensure that it matches the baud rate for the computer software.

Do I need any type of software, because all it came with was a disc that pointed me to the manual on the internet?

Let me save you a whoooole bunch of time.

Step one: Download Freescan.

Step two: Subscribe to Radio Reference. It's like $18 for six months.

Step three: Use Freescan to connect to Radioreference (it has an option within the program itself); plug in your location, select what services you want to listen to, click program.

Done.
