Got some VHS-C tapes im wanting to convert to dvd or just get uploaded onto a pc so that I can share my incredible chase in Nickerson with the ST community but dont know what to do and I cant afford a DVD converter. Can someone help me out? What do I need to do?

You will need to purchase or borrow some sort of hardware that does the job. The hardware serves as a bridge between your VHS player and your computer and turns it into a digital form that can be edited and/or burned to disk or uploaded to a video site.

A Canopus device will do the job. I've used a 100 model before to convert a Beta VHS tape to digital. A DV camera that has "pass through" capabilities will also do the job, so a friend or relative that will give you one of those for a few hours would do the trick. This is an, admittably, old list but the point is that even inexpensive cameras had this capability. http://www.homevideo101.com/dv-camcorders-with-pass-through/
Perhaps someone on the list would offer to do that for you.

You'll need the proper converter cords to connect the VHS player to the DV Camera's IN and then to go through one of the camera's OUTs to your computers input. It gets more complicated from there. If you have a TV card in your computer you can go S-Video to S-Video, if not you will probably need to go USB to USB (and need the appropriate cable with small USB on the camera side and "standard" USB on the computer side.) http://www.homevideo101.com/dv-camcorders-with-pass-through/

Then you'll need the capture software on the PC side and software to edit the video. WinDV is freeware capture software, for example. (Google it).

You may find it easier/simpler to take the tape somewhere and just have them convert it. Google VHS to digital conversion service.
