Folks,

Under some recommendation for people on here, i decided to switch to Millenicom for my mobile service because of the higher Gb cap. So far, I've had nothing but problems because of the U760 they shipped me and wanted to warn anyone thinking about this.

I had been on Sprint for three years straight with not one hiccup but the day I switched I started having issues. After a Google search, it appears to me the U760 and not Millenicom. The U760 is very buggy and really is a poorly manufactured product. I just sent a note to Millenicom about the issue and will let you know what i hear from them.

If I don't get something resolved quickly, I'll renew my Sprint contract. ;)

what kind of issues are you having? I have my U760 plugged into a Cradlepoint and everything worked right out of the box and I haven't had one issue since I got it. Is it dropping connections randomly? Perhaps you just got a bad device?

Millenicom also offers Sprint Service . The unlimited plan is on the Sprint network as is the Bring your own device plan . You are the first person I have ever heard of problems with this device . They are good folks at Millenicom . I am sure they will get it straightened out for you . A great place to talk to other Millenicom users is at DSL Reports user forums . Here is the link

Google U760 and you'll see all the problems people have had with it. I'm not blaming Millenicom... But they do need to find another model because it has a history of being defective.

I did google it and several other popular evdo modems . I found no more complaints with it than the Sierra wireless 598 and a lot more with the Franklin 680 . From what can see you got a bad device . It happens . Sorry it happened to you . The forums I gave you a link to earlier is a great place to interact with other Millenicom users and get the skinny from them . Don't give up just yet and certainly do not sign another contract with Sprint and get locked into 2 more years . The landscape is changing quickly and who knows what new options become available. Just not a good time to lock yourself into a contract with anyone if you do not have to.

I'm not sure exactly what your resistance is to what I'm posting...

Gordon,

I'm not sure exactly what your resistance is to what I'm posting. I really don't care about other brand problems because the plan I signed up for does not provide one of those other modems. Bringing them up is irrelevant to this conversation.

My point is that there is a REAL issue with a lot of the U760s. If Millenicom was providing one of the other modems with the deal I purchase, then I'd have posted about that issue instead. My reason to post this was to make sure that people knew ahead of time that there might be an issue with their U760 if they purchased the plan I did. I wasn't bashing Millenicom nor their service... Just trying to help the masses in case they encounter the issue on their own.

Ok?

Jerry, I don't think its resistance to what you're saying, I think Gordon is just trying to point out that its probably a localized issue. I have the U760 as well and it gave me some grief during the installation process on my laptop, but worked great out of the box on my cradlepoint router and performed like a champ on Tuesday's chase. I know several others who are happily using the device too. It works significantly better than my Kyocera KPC680, but again that might also be a localized problem with just that one device.Hopefully Millenicom will exchange yours?

I have a Sierra Wireless 598U and have had no problems with it....I just picked up a second 598U off Ebay as a backup, for $13.50(brand new, in the box, from Best Buy Outlet). Add a Maximum Signal Rockies amp and my signal goes through the roof no matter where I am :-)

Jerry - no resistance to you . The Novatel U760 has no more issues than any other EVDO modem on the market . When millions of units are made bad ones get through .
- I will sell an amplifier .
- They are tested at the end of the production line
- I test before I ship
- and after two weeks it dies on the buyer with no explanation
I have no way of knowing one chip on the board would go bad and neither does Cyfre
We replace it , everyone is hopefully happy .
It happens all the time in electronics
I feel that is what you are going through with you Novatel U760 . Get it exchanged . If it happens to 3 consecutive devices then you are on to something . But 1 bad device does not mean the product is not worthy of the millions of them that have been sold and are being used.

I've owed two USB760's with no issues. One I got from craigslist and the other is my Millenicom unit. What issues are you having? So far you've only been set on declaring the USB760 is a horrible device and haven't actually said what issues it is giving you.

I believe Gordon's post is relevant. It shows that ALL USB modems have complaints, so it's not just a USB760 issue. Pretty much any tech device is going to have complaints, and most of the time only the complaints are going to show up on Google searches because people hardly post anything when they're happy with a product.

I'm with everyone else that says this is a localized issue. Bad devices happen and it really sucks when you are the one that gets one. I also agree that Millenicoms support has been great the one time I actually had to use them. Let them know what's happening and I'm sure they'll work something out. Also feel free to give some more details about the issues you are having and maybe we can help more than just pointing fingers.

As far as 3G aircards go, the Novatel Wireless 760 (U760, USB760, etc) is about the best out there. I would really believe you just received a faulty device. It happens.

Yeah, this modem is very, very common. I suspect hundreds of thousands produced. Bound to be lots of problems reported when there are so many of them out there. Sorry you are having problems, but Millenicom picking this modem over others is a smart move IMO, just based on numbers.

Ok Folks... I will retract for the time being and just keep you apprised of what happens with Millenicom I dealing with the defective unit.

I switched to the Millenicom service and the same device in the past couple weeks, my experience:

Loaded up and fully operational on the laptop in under four minutes. WAAAAY easier than my struggles with Verizon's device and software. Once the initial setup was complete, plugged it into the Cradlepoint, fully operational in less than 30 sec.

Good luck with the issue, just wanted to share an encouraging experience...

Jerry, sorry everyone jumped on your back....I actually I'm glad you posted this. I know folks are OK with their particular U760s, but I brought this up in another thread (but noted it likely needed a split from that thread...maybe I didn't write it with enough drama to get attention..LOL). My search around the net has found the U760 isn't nearly as good as the Sierra 597/598 USB device. If at all possible...certainly switch to those. The hard part is finding a NON-Sprint version of those devices (if you are going to use Verizon). For me....I won't use Millenicom if they force me to use the u760 on the 20gb plan (I don't think they do though). I will only use a u597/u598 because they are just better. I even like my 597s (on Sprint) big yellow light on top (let's me know it's still on and working!....datacard with a lightbar..LOL).
