Latent heating over a large area (usually from an MCS or MCC) that persists long enough for the resultant convergence to get sufficient "inflow" such that the Coriolis effect can make an impact and generate vertical vorticity over a mesoscale area. Look on the poleward or left side (relative to system motion) of a dying MCS.
