Hi all
I was chasing, as many other chasers the Lipscomb supercell on may 23 and watching my pics for the first time I saw this possible wedge. I remember there were a lot of chaser that day and the DOW group; the sup had HP features and it was very difficoult to see under the meso if there was a tornado or not,so now I gave some contrast to the image.

During that moment chasers became very nervous and it seemed that the meso was strenghtening and producing a large tornado on the ground.
Anyone has got the same pic and can confirm?

I can't rule out the possiblity that it could be a wedge, but on first glance, I say that it is not. I have seen storms that look similar. It is probably just an optical illusion. Maybe a video clip can give a little more detail.

We were east-southeast of the storm at that same time...it sure is a nice tornado look alike, but there was no sense of rotation with it at all, just an intense core. With 3 million chasers on it, I don't think a wedge would have gone unreported...I could be wrong, but I think this storm was actually weakening somewhat at the time as a new cell developed back to the southwest and soon became the big beast that caused all the problems near and after dark.

As Charles mentioned...these fairly distant view points are often shrouded by the deep dark HP core and can make tornado id difficult to impossible. Certainly cannot rule out a tornado embedded somwhere in there, but this does not appear that it would be a wedge in that particular photo.

My chase team was much closer to this meso at the time, and we can all say that it was a very turbulent area. That wedge-like feature looked different from our point of view, it was brown and appeared to be more than halfway down to the ground, a low wall cloud perhaps? I thought it was a wedge too at first. I have video of this storm, but I haven't edited it yet. It didn't appear to be too organized, however the thing was so shrouded in precip, that we really couldn't tell. We stared at it, and some more weird clouds back to the SW for a good 20 minutes before taking off after the Borger beast.

That was a day where chasers could have seen multiple tornadoes and not even know it until after careful review of their footage. As of now, we don't think we saw any tornadoes that day. Great storms though.

Hi Andrea, I think I saw you when you took that image:D

Here is a proof this was NOT a wedge or a tornado at all...although there is a cute wall on the left!

Agreed with some above, it was an incredible HP monster!

Yep..HP monster. We were north of Lipscomb on 305 and west on Duke road about 3-4 miles west looking SW into the cell. No rotation but one heck of a core. This was about as good of a view as we got under the base . Video grab. Off to the right was the black core.
