• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Lightning Triggers for Photography - What are folks here using?

Looking to buy a lightning trigger for a Can 6D. Like the looks and features of the Patchmaster but I'm not getting any info back from them. Their answering system here in the states sounds like a disconnection recording.

If not PatchMaster, what are folks here at Stormtrack using for lightning photography as far as a triggering device.

Many Thanks,

Joe Taylor

I have been using a Nero trigger for the past several months with great results. I have seen several online reviewers talk about the unit being cheaply made, but I have not found that to be the case. I was concerned when I found out the unit ships from Turkey, but I ordered it on a Sunday night and DHL had it to my door that Friday so no complaints there. I use it with a Nikon, but it came with both the Nikon and Canon cables. I like it and would buy another if I misplaced or broke it.

Below is the first lightning shot I took with it - I had just put my camera on the tripod and was adjusting the Nero unit when a stroke went across the sky and my camera shutter triggered. I was thinking "NO WAY" but, sure enough, I got a great pic on the very first try.

Thanks Todd. Awesome image. I think Patchmaster also ships from Turkey via DHL. They have an office in Florida. Not sure it's still open though.

I saw your other forum thread. Sorry you are having trouble with Patchmaster.

Make sure to shop around. B&H photo, Amazon, etc., all sell lightning triggers of various brands and features and there is a lot to be said for the comfort of large companies standing behind the products they sell.

Hopefully we will see YOU post some lightning pics soon!

Thanks Todd. And by the way. In the 80's and 90's growing up in Iowa I chased all over the state. I'm from Ottumwa.

Just heard from the folks at Patchmaster. They do indeed work with the 6D. Do wish there were more reviews out there. But the price is right.
