There’s a great new app called WeatherLab that allows for some insanely impressive Level II radar views... It’s still early but it has been moving fast!

I’m just a happy user.

That's fantastic! I like RadarScope, I had bought it and used it when I was using an Android phone but since switching to an iPhone I never used it again because I simply didn't like the idea of having to buy it a second time just because I switched from Android to iOS.

The demo on their website is pretty skewed. It makes data on the 19.5 degree surface look like it's at an 85 degree angle.

The problem with trying to show people 3D radar in 3D space is that the atmosphere has a way longer horizontal scale than a vertical scale, so if you want to view the atmosphere as it really is, everything is still going to look pretty damn flat, or you're going to have to stick to a very limited horizontal section to see it at a more apparently correct angle.

You can set the vertical scale to a variety of angles (or none.)

I purchased the app, overall I'm happy with it. There is a subscription fee with it if you want the Pro version, it's dirt cheap and worth it IMO. I know it's still in early development, but a few things I noticed and would like to see added and changed:

* The map details is very lacking; you have the states outlined and that's it. No county lines, no county names and no cities listed at all. Personally, this is information I like to have on radar while chasing, especially when I'm chasing in areas that I'm not familiar with and don't know what county I am in or what towns are around me.

* From what I can tell, it doesn't display watches or warnings at all, that kinda sucks when you already have radar apps out there that does.

* Lack of GPS function... there's no GPS function, there's a button to make you think when pressed, it shows your location on the map... instead, it just brings up a list of radar sites.

* No way to incorporate data from third party vendors. If you have a subscription to AllisonHouse, you won't be able to use it with this App.

Overall, it's a great radar app for being new and in early development. It is lacking in areas, but coming out of the gate with a new app they've done a pretty good job. Hopefully with time my issues with the app is resolved and they continue to become better.

*1) Mapping is the very next update they are releasing
*2) Watches, warnings, lightning data, and maybe full placefile support (maybe even METARs) is in the works
*3) Actually the opposite is true :) Once you turn on GPS tracking, you can't turn it off. That's a fix they have coming soon too. Can you send me (or them) a video of that happening?
*4) See *2 :)

That's awesome to hear! I figured the app would only get better going forward. I love the app, they really knocked it out of the park with this. I'll mess with the GPS tracking, maybe I didn't do it right? Let me mess with it again and I'll let you know...

Found this app yesterday. I like it so far. I’d like to see a slider filter for lighter returns and a screenshot or send to button so I don’t have to keep hitting button combos to grab screens.

I'll post a snap with the mapping on it - it's a beaut. dbZ editing is in the works, and I'll pass along the idea of the screenshot button.
