My six year old daughter is into weather, she gets that from me. This morning I got asked the question what is a cold front. I explained to her the best I could, but was wondering if there were any materials or books out there geared towards children. She is above her grade level of 1st grade so she can comprehend some older children's books just fine.

She already has Jon Davies Book, Storm Chasers! On the Trail of Twisters. And a book from Scholastic called Storms. And we did find this site that is part of Scholastic Weather Watch Home.

She did her first ever science fair last year and showed a tornado in a bottle for her project. This year she wants to do another project with weather. I am thinking using her question from this morning as a starting point.

I plan on letting my fingers bow down to Google, but any additional help would be great!

DK has some good books on science topics. I have one of the original DK books on Weather and it has a lot of picutres and simple paragraphs to explain each of the topics of Weather. I think fronts were one of the two-page sections. You can probably find some of these DK books at Amazon. Some of the DK books come with clip-art and they are mostly hardcover.

I don't have any info for you, but wanted to let you know I think its great that she shares this with daddy!

Ive got a 9 year old daughter that actually goes storm chasing with my wife and I! It has been SO wonderful. She loves seeing all the cool places we go to, and she now knows what Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and all of Texas are like. She saw lightening bugs for the first time in her life this last spring! We had been chasing a storm down a muddy back road in Kansas when we gave up on it. We sat there in the dark looking at the maps when she yells from the back seat "Look! Dad! Lightening BUGS!!!!". I killed the trucks lights and we sat there in that muddy Kansas field for a half hour watching the lightening bugs. Awsome.

I love the tornadoes, but we have a great time when we don't see one.
