• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

iPhone 4 as wireless router?

Forgive me if this has been addressed on this forum, I didn't find it after a search.

I heard recently that the iPhone 4 can be made into a wireless router through some process, but I'm not sure what. I know this is a feature on some Android-powered phones, but I was wondering if anyone had iPhone info on the subject.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

If you're iPhone is jailbroken, there is software available in the Cydia store called MiWi 4.0. If I recall, it is $19.99 and it will allow other devices to connect to your iPhone and share it's cellular connection. I use it whenever I'm chasing and it works great as long as you have a data connection.

I used PDA Net prior to switching to MyWi. Admittedly I haven't used it since MyWi, when I did I found it to be a terrible drain on my battery. It would drain the battery even when plugged in. However that was with the iPhone 3G. I haven't tried PDA Net on my iPhone 4. I think both softwares allow you a trial period, so I'd decide that way.

Actually, Apple and AT&T recently added "tethering" as a feature to the iPhone. You can NOT use it if you have a "Unlimited" data plan, you have to switch over to one of their newer data plans. Plus, there is something like a $19 per month "tethering" charge. You then activate "tethering" on your iPhone, and plug it into your laptop. Call AT&T and ask for any more details.

I do not do this, as I have the unlimited data plan that I don't want to give up, so I have no further info to share. Good luck.

Good day all,

I have an iPod (4th Gen) touch and a "myfi" unit from AT&T.

I use the iPod with the "myfi" and have no problems.

I have separate cell and data plan(s), so an iPhone is not an option yet (for 18 months at least). Just an idea I'll toss out there.

The iPod touch is an awesome device, and iPhones also can use the wi-fi (whether it's from a public source, or a "myfi" unit in my case). You can also connect several other's (up to 5) to it as well, such as other laptop(s).
