Jay Prater of KAKE TV Twitter'd this information this morning "FYI...Don Burgess OU/CIMMS will not give an updated install schedule for the dual-pol upgrades. Sites contractor issues with calibration tolerances and proper tech manuals for filed maintanence. So who knows when ICT will be converted? :("

What does this mean for the other location updates?

It means they are delayed too. The ROC used to have a FTP site with weekly updates, but they cut off access right before this issue came up. Not sure what the lack of "proper tech manuals" has to do with starting the beta, but it's not a good sign.

The initial Dual Polarization modification to select WSR-88D (Weather Surveillance Radar-1988, Doppler) sites (including Wichita KS) has been delayed to allow additional time for preparation and review of maintenance procedures. This will ensure a successful installation and transition of this important new technology to support NWS forecast operations. The government and contractor are working on a revised deployment schedule for these initial sites, planned to be available later in January. Another TIN will be sent when a new deployment date is determined.

It means that the tech manuals (read: repair manuals) aren't sufficient for NWS technicians to repair a broken dual-pole radar. As such, they cannot be installed.

Whats funny was I was in the running last year to run the crew that was contracted out to do the upgrades. It sounded like a dream job till they broke down the part of ..after the lower 48 were done they would ship us overseas ! But would have been a good dinner conversation piece non the less.
