• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Herb Stein passes away

RIP Herb. A name I came to know when I was just a teen in the 90's. I saw him many times out in the field while chasing, but never actually met him. Another great storm chaser and researcher has been taken from us.

I represented Herb as a photographer many years ago and I'll never forget his reaction when I called to tell him one of his images sold for over 3k.

He was always a friendly person to meet when chasing and a credit to genuine scientific research.

Live is short, don't waste a minute.

Warren

Never got to meet Herb, or Andy for that matter. I hear both were awesome people. Too bad when people depart us early like this. R.I.P sir.

I'd been around Herb off and on in different towns throughout the alley when we chasers would drop anchor and head to the restaurants/saloons at the end of often exciting days. I never actually shook hands with him until the evening of June 4th '15 (the SIMLA, COLO. OUTBREAK DAY). A horde of chasers were at that big Truckstop / Restaurant / Saloon that sits across from the Holiday Inn Express in Limon. Herb was with Sean Casey and crew, and walked over to our table that included Doren Berge and Warren Faidley, and shook hands with us all. I was very glad to finally meet him. I have a tendency to watch people fairly intently and form opinions, and through the years I always read Herb as a guy who was one who probably felt things rather deeply, and one who gave decisions a lot of thought before acting on them. In essence, I read him as a total class-act....a gentleman. Gentlemen are a lost breed in this world anymore, it seems....and here we go again,.....another is taken from us long before his time. I wish now that I would have made more of an effort to get to know the man. There's a lesson there for us all....you've heard it said that it's better to give the bouquet of flowers to the desired recipient BEFORE they pass....not when they're in their coffin. Godspeed and God Bless Herb....for a life well lived. You're welcome to ride along with us in the future...anytime you feel like getting back in the chase game for a while.

Just To say during the past 16 years of chasing on the Great Plains though admittedly just for maybe 2 weeks each year I have nevertheless from time to time acknowledged Herb with a wave on a number of occasions when a big storm is just about to kick off. I think I always saw him driving the NOAA Doppler truck, is that right? ...Anyway I know his face from year in and year out and I am very sad about this news.
Just to say well done Herb with your long term effort and help regarding storm research. You will not be forgotten. ...................
