Mike Thompson

Hi all, I am getting into a new hobby here, storm photography. I just learned how to photograph lightning last fall and got a few shots before storm season was over, and I was hooked, now I can hardly wait til summer here!
I was worndering if there are many storm chasers up here in MN. I know there are a few but nothing like down south. I am hoping to find an experienced one that wouldn't mind someone riding along on a weekend chase up here? I would buy all your fuel, and you would just have to put up with a geek with a camera, that wants to learn more too.
great way to save some fuel expense eh?
great site, glad I found it, and look forward to reading the info here. mabye i will get some pics this year to post too :)

Welcome, Mike! Mods will probably want to move this to the new user thread, but in the meantime... there are a few dedicated chasers up here that I would consider 'regional' chasers that chase setups out of the state. Bill Doms has been doing his thing for years and has some great pictures if you haven't seen his work. Myself and James Seitz are pretty active, and there are probably a dozen or so MN guys that tend to talk more on Facebook or F5chaser.com's forums. St. Cloud State has a storm chase team which is pretty active from what I understand as well. There aren't as many "high profile" chasers partly because Northern Plains storms don't seem to get the attention that a high risk in OK gets, and partly because we're all a bunch of humble, passive aggressive Scandinavians up here :)

P.S. check your private messages/notifications on ST, or friend me on Facebook - we should talk.

ooops didn't see the new users thread.
HI Robert, thanks for the reply!
uffda, yeah we scandinavians hehe, love it!
great to see there are a few out there, but glad it isn't like OK, and the traffic lol, I fight enough traffic every day doing my job as a courier in the cities.
I like getting out in the country and away from traffic on the weekends for sure.
I have seen Bill's blog, really nice work he does!

Welcome to another Upper Midwest person! Seems there are a few of us up in here, I don't chase, but do spotting for the local county, maybe one day will get the chance to chase.

Welcome Mike. There's a decent amount of MN chasers out there. Google F5chaser and you should find a link to the forum which is a more Minnesota/Midwest oriented chase forum. Read through the stuff here on the beginners forum and you will learn a lot of stuff pretty quick. Hope to see you out there!

Thanks for the welcomes, I will check out that site Baron.
Robert, I have tried replying to your message, I don't know if it is working though.
