Hailstone nucleates on Texas tornado debris

I can't say I've ever seen this before, but it probably happens more often than we think. Tornado debris lofted from one of the Pampa area tornadoes yesterday became nuclei for hailstones:

Fascinating. I'd always figured debris could get lofted that high, I just wondered if any of it could hang long enough to get ice on it before plummeting to the ground.

There was a report of a frozen teddy bear falling out the sky in AL during 4/27/11, not sure if that was ever verified.

There's also the famous report of a large, frozen chunk of mattress found in Boston Harbor after the 1953 Worcester tornado, and a diary from Tupelo, MS was found in a field ~25 miles away, "frozen solid," after the 1936 tornado. It seems pretty unbelievable, but it makes sense given how high and far we know debris can be lofted in violent tornadoes. Pretty neat to see photographic proof in this case, though.
