Hail Resistant Windshields Debuted

Ford and Corning (the glass company) have debuted a windshield made of Gorilla Glass, the same stuff used on cell phone screens, at the Detroit Auto Show. The demonstration shows it can handle a ping pong/ golf ball sized hail without damage. No word on release date or price.

Please be soon please be soon. I have a Subaru...which notoriously come with tissue paper strength glass (at least my gen Forester did).

This is quite interesting! I'd be very curious to see the pricing on this and whether in practice it really can handle the massive hailstones Supercells are notorious for producing. (Above golf ball size)

I suspect this is more for weight reduction than strength since it's thinner. My "standard" glass has taken a golf ball barrage without a scratch.

It's not that hard to fracture Gorilla Glass. I've got two phones with cracked screens thanks to being hit in just the right way.
