GRLevel3 vs. GRLevel2AE

I'm thinking of possibly purchasing AE edition and I'm wanting to know some thoughts about the program. I think GR3 is great, but I'm wanting to upgrade for next season. Is it worth it? Any pros and cons that you can think of?

I downloaded the trial version today, and I like it. Of course, there are a few things that I will have to learn, but all in all, it seems like it might be worth the 170 bucks.

I guess it depends on what your primary use would be for. If you plan to use it for chasing, you better be sure you have a very good wireless data service because broadband data transfer is needed for superres level2 data. I have both GR3 and GR2analyst and I find myself rarely using the latter in situ because I'm not always in broadband download areas, even with an external antenna. If you plan to do a lot of post-analysis, it's hard to beat GR2AE that's for sure. That is what I usually use GR2AE for... and GR3 (+StormLab4!) for chasing in-situ.

GR2AE is $250 - not $170. Still worth it ;)

Yea, you're right. I looked at it wrong because it is only 170 if you have GRLevel2. Well, I'm not sure $250 is worth it to me. Like Mike said, I will need a very good data feed with it. I was wanting to get it mostly for the laptop and chasing, but it seems GR3 might be the best fit for that, at least right now anyway.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

If it's for your laptop and chasing go GR3. You will be hard pressed to get L2 data to load reliably through your data card, even if you use an AllisonHouse subscription. The data is just too big for current mobile networks.

I've not had a problem with Verizon when I'm around cities... No joy of course in outlying areas, but if my chases involve being near actual metro areas, AE has stayed fine.

Of course with chasing here in the SP, you rarely chase in or near metro areas. As we all know, it's in the middle of nowhere, or near podunk towns with populations no more than the local cattle herd. I think I'll stick with GR3, at least for the chase laptop.

Considering I have had issues downloading even GR3 data when chasing in Middle-of-Nowhere, Texas, I think that is the right decision. I thought about going up to GR2AE, but the file size was the main reason I stuck with GR3 (not to mention the cost).

My take on the 'Versus' issue

OK, so for a little while now I've been using both GR3 (on the older laptops), and GR2AE on the home PC. My personal opinion is that for chasing purposes I prefer GR3. It's simple, to the fact, and I don't see the need for the higher resolution and fancy upgrades of AE. I certainly like the idea of using less CPU resources as well. Especially when mobile (although I haven't really compared AE while mobile yet).
