Can those of you in the know please post some links to websites with good placefiles for GRLevel3? And, which do you reccommend? I am especially interested in street level mapping.
you need to visit GRlevelxstuff.com for place files. The forums on Grlevelx.com are a wealth of information. You can get the census files (street maps) at http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/
Honestly when you get that zoomed in you can't really see the radar with any detail. Of course you can configure it to see the streets zoomed out but it's just a blur then. I still us it though since I have GPS running with it, sort of a backup for my nav system.
If you're looking for roads, Scott Lincoln has put up a TON of links to placefiles of streets across most sites in the central U.S. Warning...they're big. Here's the link to them: http://www.meteor.iastate.edu/~slincoln/GRS/shapefiles/
I use Jeff Snyder's placefiles. I have the roads loaded but as a backup. The files I use the most are local reports, SPC Outlook Day 1, and the MCD. I also found the Amateur Repeater file to come in handy. It's great for travel as well as weather.
I'm using GRLevelXStuff.com. Can someone help me on how to get the placefiles onto GRlevel3? I have the stuff downloaded but haven't been able to figure out how to get it on the program. Either reply on this or PM me. Thanks
Chris, click Windows->Show Placefile Manager, and then click the open folder icon and enter the URL of your placefile. A good place to ask questions about GrLevelX is the owner forums: http://www.grlevelx.com/owners/
I am not sure when, but sometime in the past few months, the site must have experienced down time (maybe from a crash of some kind) There is mention about repopulating the downloads section in the forums. I noticed there was something amiss when I went to log in and it told me my username was wrong. I had to re-sign up.
Yeah, last month(I think) the server went poof.. So, They are working on getting it back up. So far, threre are only a few things available, but then again, the old server was a culmination of several years of work.
