So I just got my new Lenovo ThinkPad T61 and I'm looking to finally move away from Windows. I'm now running Xubuntu 8.04, this is just Ubuntu running the XFCE window manager. Two of the key things keeping to the OS was my music production software and GRLevel3.

I am happy to announce that with the latest version of WINE I am able to run GRL3 without any major issues! I do have to force 16-bit smoothing to get that and it seems settings are not getting saved, but other than that everything is running just fine.

My next attempt is going to be WeatherScope so I can build my regional composites and then the transition will be complete!

This is good news! I had tried this a while back with Gutsy and WINE but ran into quite a few issues that I didn't feel like working on at the time. Perhaps it's time for another look..

Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 with GRLevel 3

If the information I read is correct, running GRL3 on Linux should be great.
Does anyone know if it has to be on Xubuntu, or Ubuntu?

I busted on version 7.10 and could not get WINE to run it.

Would appreciate any info on details!!

The only difference between the two versions is the window manager that's used. You should have no issue with Ubuntu, or Kubuntu for that matter. There still exists the issue of not being able to save your settings and I'm not yet sure whether they're kept in the registry or in 'ini' files. The goal is to simply recreate them from my Windows version and hope they stick. Feel free to delve deeper so we can find out how to get it all working.

I do still have XP installed with the softwares so I can use GRL3 with the full smoothing and GPS but that's only for chase days.
