Greensburg Video DVD

This may be misplaced but I wanted to throw this out. I think members have a lot of video of the Greensburg tornado, radar data, etc. Along with DDC documentation, and interviews a good DVD could get put together by our community with funds going to Greensburg as a whole.

I did not get out to that area until the next day. However, what I observed indicates it will take years of help to rebuild the city and lives. A docu -story by the chasers of where they were with the video and how what they saw impacted them.

This year would be tough though. Already, what - we've had Enterprise, AL, Dumas, AR, Holly, CO, Eagle Pass, TX, Cactus, TX, Tulia, TX, Greensburg, KS, Sweetwater, OK, Little, OK, etc. - I'm sure I'm missing a few!

It's been a fun year chase-wise, yet sad in a way for all these little towns just getting leveled! But if you really stop and think about all these towns taking direct hits, the fatality count has been minimal. I credit the media and NWS for advanced warnings, but I think the chase community has come together in a more professional manner than ever. And as the public is more educated, the trends will continue in the right direction. There are many chasers on this forum who, just this year alone, have been heroes to these people in these tiny towns!

Here's my thought... everyone joins together at the end of the year and a team compiles the best of the best into an hour-long / two hour-long DVD. All funds (minus production expenses and materials) are donated to a charitable organization of our selection... American Red Cross ??? - as a donation presented on behalf of the entire storm chasing community of StormTrack.

Just an idea. Again, just an idea.

We've got some talented video editing people on this forum. If we could produce something by, say, by the end of the "traditional" chase season, maybe some sales could be made to start adding funds into an account. Maybe a MOD on this forum could set up an account and then when the video is marketed, funds could be deposited into that account.

In addition, I'm game for a financial donation. I'd be willing to donate $500 to start the account off. I think my company would likely match that as well.

What would really be nice is to have some of the senior members representing ST to formally present this contribution to the American Red Cross at the end of the year. ARC comes to mind the most to me, but someone might have another organization in mind.

Anyway, with media connections, maybe have a formal presentation of the funds handed over to the Red Cross, with a special emphasis made on "this contribution is made on behalf of a not-for-profit organization, StormTrack, compiled of a number of severe weather research teams and storm chasers, and is presented to the American Red Cross to be used in the recovery efforts of tornado-ravaged communities across the U.S."

I can think of several who would represent us well, but Tim V., Tim M., maybe Jeff, David and others as well. Shane and Mickey do excellent video production, as well as so many others. It's exciting to think about the production and the donation possibility, and I think we could come up with a sizeable contribution. The logistics of getting everything together... electing people to represent us, deciding on the editors, producers, etc. of the video, who will manage the funds (savings account), etc. - that's the more difficult part. But with a little effort, it CAN be done! I think this would be a good opportunity to show the media and the public just how much chasers do for their communities and this is just one little way of giving back to all those who fell victim to this year's storms.

It warms my heart thinking about doing this. At the same time though, we're only 1/2 through the traditional tornado season, and with Hurricane Season to come! Uh, I don't wanna think about it!

I have sold many photos and videos of the Mt. Rainier series I shot this past year, and am willing to make those into a contribution fund as well. If someone can set up the account on behalf of, say, "StormTrack Relief Fund 2007," I'm game for a contribution. The company I work for is a sizeable oil and gas services company. I'm certain they would match or even make a considerable donation on behalf of the company to this fund as well. I could hit up my boss for a $2500 donation to get things started as well.

Anyone else like this idea? Tim V. - would you be interested in setting up an account as a "StormTrack Relief Fund 2007" account?
Tim M, Jeff S, David D, Shane A, Mickey P, - interested?

CAN WE MOVE THIS TO THE ANNOUNCEMENTS THREAD AND RED FLAG "ATTENTION" IT IF ALL ARE INTERESTED?

I think it would be cool to have like a special sticky somewhere with links to different organizations who are taking donations so those who wish to give can choose which organization they'd like to give to.

Also, I hope we'll have Storms of 2007 this year. Assuming I get my music software up and running again, I am hoping to contribute my efforts :)

Actually they are for sure making a Storms of 2007. In fact Verne has already got the website up and running.

I think anyone out there that does any kind of interview with any sort of media outlet needs to mention the Storms of DVD so that we can get the name out there, and that we show the world that we care about the victims. Darin did this on Nightline the other night, unfortunately they didn't air it because of uploading issues. But we're working on it with other interviews.

I like the idea. But I can't take credit for production skills....my good friend Mickey Ptak is the wizard behind all my videos, as well as our 'Storms Of 2005' segment.

DVD is a great idea a way for us to give back. I have access to editing equipment at my church and have done alot of editing over the years i can help if any one needs rapid production.

Also what about helping rebuild? with a chaser convergence on greensburg to help them put the town back together?

Count me in, especially when it comes to hurricane footage. If there's a hurricane landfall I'll be sure to donate it. Also whatever I get this spring.

I am a bit confused. Is everybody refering to a separate DVD or to the 2007 edition in the "Storms of" series?
As far as a video compilation, I would suggest focusing our efforts on one entity and the "Storms of" series is the best place since it is a proven format and has a relatively long track record of quality. I think they are already acquiring video for the Storms of 2007.

Maybe an early separate cash donation to some local KS charity in the name of "Stormtrack" or a "storm chaser fund" would be helpful to the town. I am very willing to donate some money with other chasers to help those in Greensburg and I also willing to donate video to the Storms of Series when they need May 5th stuff or if I catch anything when I go back out in late May. If this season continues, we may need a dual layer or 2 DVDs!

Since day 1, Storms of.... was created to be able to get some funds to help those that are in need after terrible events like Greensburg, or any other weather related disaster.

So I think that Vern and co. should be the ones to create Storms of 2007 with a special emphasis on the Greensburg event. Like it was mentionned earlier... the Storms of 2007 website is already up and running ( http://www.stormsof2007.org/ ) I think that Storms of 2007 should be presented as a Boxset due to the fact that it was a big spring in 2007.

Maybe Vern can feed us on what are his plans with SO2007?

My 2 cents
