• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

If anyone's looking for a new tripod, I found a great website that has the Gitzo GT2530 Series II Mountaineer for $479 + a $40 mail-in rebate; That's almost $100 cheaper than I've found elsewhere.

I also used this company to buy the Wimberley Sidekick (and adapter plate). They shipped out the next day on the tripod and Sidekick and were very helpful.

This tripod impresses the hell outta me. So light; So easy to use. And the center column is removable so that the tripod can be used at ground level (something that I do a lot with my macro work). Still waiting for my RRS BH-55 to arrive...zzzzzzz....

Whoa, that's wayyy outta my snack bracket. Looks like a nice unit though, especially for backpacking or situations where weight is a factor.

For chasing use though I'm not sure Carbon Fiber would be suitable for everyone. Personally I like my older used Bogen 3221 because it can stand up in some pretty stiff wind, and I don't mind if it gets banged around a bit. Picked it up on ebay a while back with a decent head for $125.

I agree with you about that, John, except that this tripod has a hook on the bottom of the center column to suspend a sand-bag or camera bag to increase the weight. I know, I know, why not just get a heavier tripod? Because I don't only use it for chasing and I need it to be versatile...

That's actually a good fix Melanie; no tripod is going to suit everyone. I've used a weight a couple times on mine too when I thought it needed more stability and it worked very well.

I love my Slik 740DX, used it the other night in 50mph wind gusts. Stood up just fine with the legs spread out to the second positions.
