GOES-R Deployment

The new GOES-R satellite upgrade sounds nothing short of incredible. Those who are unfamiliar with it will find an excellent overview in this MetEd module: https://www.meted.ucar.edu/training_course.php?id=42 I took the course a while ago, long enough that I've forgotten most of what I learned and need to retake the module at some point, but I've retained enough to realize that this next generation of satellite reflects a quantum leap in forecasting tools.

I understand that the first GOES-R satellite will be launched sometime this year. My question for any of you who are in the know: What is the scheduled date for GOES-R information to become accessible?

It launches March 2016, I don't think it is expected to come online until one of the current satellites dies. I'll try to check on that.

Found it - looks like it'll be GOES-WEST starting in mid 2017.

Thanks, Rob. That's later than I first heard but not unexpected. It'll be well worth the wait when it finally rolls out. I just wish it was GOES-EAST.
