Tonight was/is peak...I know we have some great night shooters on the board, so wondering if anyone got out tonight with their cameras. I know a Sunday late peak doesn't groove with most people's work schedules, but since when does that stop us.

I chose not to shoot tonight, just chilled (literally) in the back yard with some beers and tunes and enjoyed the show. Saw at minimum a hundred meteors...quite a show and about to go to bed before peak even occurs. Saw two very long track earth grazers early that made my night.

Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and watch the show. I didn't get out—there were probably breaks in the clouds at points before the snow moved in, but didn't feel like messing with it this time around. 100+ meteors had to make it worth the freeze, I'm sure!

I have an electric blanket I use, so the temp wasn't too bad, but once it gets under 20°, not much helps.

Also, my beer kept freezing. :)

Perseids are my preference, despite usually not as prolific as geminids, it's much nicer to sit out late in summer time.

I was fortunate to have clear skies during the peak. Although it didn't look like it was going to turn out that way. I actually ended up shooting the shower for a total of 3 nights. The first few were ok and I got some decent shots, but I wanted something special for the peak. Through a friend I was introduced to an old farmhouse outside of Wichita Falls near the town of Petrolia. We arrived around 7pm and looked for the best compositions. I finally settled on this one for my main shot. Using interval time mode on my Nikon I captured a frame of the night sky every 24sec. Using Photoshop with blending modes and masking I was able to create a 42 image time stack composite. I was very pleased with the result and can't wait to be back to this location.
