I just premiered the Storms of 2007 DVD this evening for my rents here at home outside Ft. Worth. As I started the DVD a thought came to my head.
The Storms of series are a compilation of storms in North America throughout the calender year. In 2005 the Storms of DVD covered the severe weather season together with the monsterous hurrican season. Well in my opinion if the Storms of series is truly a compilation that years extreme storms, I think it should cover all storms, including significant winter storms. What got me thinking of this is this last weeks major ice storm in the OKC metro/Norman area. There were tons and tons of pics and videos that came out of that storm that I think would really make a nice addition to the Storm of series. And we even had Mike Hollingshed who went out of his way to film and picture the storm in MO. I mean what rule says that the DVD cant include winter storms? But I would limit it to significant winter storms that are both rare for the area or region they affect and impacts they cause.

Something to consider. Greg Stumpf, Mike Pitak, your thoughts.

Chris, this makes no sense. That's like saying a compilation of funny cat videos should also include dogs because they are both animals. Winter storms are cool and all, but how much interest will people really have in video of white-out conditions? Time lapse drifting???

If you have seen a blizzard once it is the same thing the next time around. It would be a nice change once in awhile though but I would probibly get bored unless it showed people out in the storm driving around etc which is dangerous.

I second what Aaron said, I wouldn't have any interest in watching video of snow. Snow, in my opinion, is not something that is very compelling on video such as tornadoes, lightning, and amazing storm structure. Snow just blankets the ground and everything else making it white and honestly, that's not very exciting. And taping snow falling would be like taping rain falling and then trying to sell that, in my opinion it wouldn't really sell.I for one sell enough snow every year that I have no interesting in seeing it on video.

Loving Winter weather or not, the obvious flaw with this idea: How would it be possible to edit, author, package, and distribute a DVD that is going to cover severe weather from an ENTIRE calendar year and have it ready inside that calendar year?

The Storms Of series typically receives video submissions through October, and even then it's a mad house trying to get it done by December. Adding Winter weather (much of which occurs in the Oct-Dec time frame of a year) would be nearly impossible to complete. As for the other half of Winter weather that occurs in the Jan-Mar time frame, no one will care about that once severe storm season starts.

And the most important point, which has already been brought up, is while the title of the videos are "Storms Of..", they're created by chasers through chasing video. Adding in "front porch" footage would take away from the main selling point, which is chasers helping storm victims with their work.
