For models, I use RAP.UCAR mostly, because I've been reading them for so long, I'm used to reading between the lines. Or in this case, between the model grid points. Now this is when a day before or earlier fcst.

For 'day of', or shortcast, I use SPC's mesoscale analysis page. Bearing in mind that the CAPE and other parameters are simply in the RUC's mind, and may not represent reality. Also I use NASA satellite page for the 1km. Top it off with RadarAlive or RadarScope or such for in-situ shortcasts, that is, in the 5-50 min fcst range. Oh, and RAP.UCAR for sfc plots too.

Also pivotal weather is free and good to use as well although the colors used on the sim radar is weird

Yes - I deploy GEMPAK with AWIPS2 set up to connect to their server. Works nicely!

The primary programs I use for forecasting are F5 Data, RAOB, Twisterdata and of course the NWS.
