Here is a link to an article in today's Canberra Times (Australia) about research that has apparently for the first time identified fire tornados, as distinct from fire whirls. Apparently fire tornados are analagous with supercell tornados, while fire whirls are analagous with dust devils. The guy referred to here, Rick McCrae, spoke at the Australian Severe Weather Association Conference in 2011 (sort of like Chaser Convention).
