• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

F5Data/Allison House/GRL2AE- best config

I'm doing a test run of F5Data Standard with Allison Storm Hunter package. I'm just having some debating between my ears on the best placefile setup for GRL2AE. I'm no meteorologist but I'm trying to learn with the best tools possible. F5Data is pretty extensive stuff.

What I'm looking for is a recommended setup for home for forecasting and mobile for nowcasting. I don't have any ideal where to ask since F5 and AH are pretty barren for traffic. So I figured this would be the best place to dig for people with experience on these programs.

I don't know too many people who run the F5Data integrated within GR via the AH feeds. At least not on a consistent basis. I think it's primarily because it quickly clutters up the screen with all the lines and what not.

I'd be interested to here from those that do though.

When I was using it I was only plotting a few key params. And would turn on/off for a minute or two just to check a few things during a "down" period between storms.

I believe most folks use F5Data for meso scale analysis before storm initiation and then switch to GR+AH for insitu analysis.

I have two main placefiles with F5/AH that I use in GR. One is basically an instability/tornado one and the other is shear. The instability/tornado one has SBCAPE, SBCINH, LCL, surface Td, and SPC SigTor.

The second placefile has 850 speeds, 500 speeds, 700 temp, 3km VGP.

I use the first obviously for tornado forecasting as it's nice to help analyze the surface obs some so I don't need to read all of them. Then I can choose a storm based on environmental data. For the shear placefile, it's basically just windspeeds at the levels I watch and then 700hPa temp to be on the lookout for the edge of the cap.
