EPAC Coming to Life

Yeah, it's kind of crazy! As per the NHC Discussion, the estimated intensity (926 mb/140 kt) makes Celia tied with Ava 1973 for strongest EPAC June hurricane on record!

It's a nice-lookin' cyclone-- not just on infrared, but on microwave imagery as well. Total quality. What a waste for it to be a fish!

Celia's down to Cat 4 now, but Darby has strengthened to 100 kt-- the second major hurricane of the season. It's a cute little thing:

Good day all,

Celia and Darby continue to impress.

Celia is down from Cat-5 status but Darby is now 120 MPH (strong cat-3). The "buzzsaw' satellite images of both are a sight to behold.

I wish I was a fish!

I understand that an active Pacific means a quiet Atlantic (and vice versa) ... I wonder if this has to do with the MJO (Madden Julian Oscillation).

You'll see the Pacific quiet down a bit, then stuff forms in the Atlantic, then "cycles" again back to Pacific activity.
