President Biden has nominated oceanographer Dr. Richard Spinrad to lead NOAA.
We have not had a NOAA administrator with a meteorological background since Dr. Robert White, NOAA's first, from 1970-74. I view the president's nomination as unfortunate because we really need someone with a weather science background right now given the challenges facing the NWS and the wider meteorological community.
