• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Downburst footage from Hoffman, NC on 6-15-2010

I know I am new here but I am a meteorologist living in North Carolina. I also enjoy storm chasing whenever and whatever I can. This is footage I took as a downburst occurred in Hoffman, NC on 6-15-2010. Notice at the beginning of the clip the "wet out" conditions as this wet microburst began. I estimated speeds in the 50-60mph range at my location. I apologize for the shakiness as I didn't have time to really stop and set up as I wanted to capture the event as it happened right then and there.

This is the full description as posted on YouTube:

I chased this cell to Hoffman North Carolina in Richmond County at 6:30pm on 6-15-2010. The storm produced 50-60mph downburst winds, which tossed several construction barrels including one captured in this video. I apologize for the shakiness as I was keeping an eye out for vehicles and flying debris. I was forced by the weather to stop in a less than optimal position in a construction zone. This was on US-1.

At the end of the video is a slow motion clip of the flying construction barrel. Check out the original video for a little more storm footage as this is a shortened version.

UPDATE: I was given information that there was metal roofing ripped off a metal structure in the area I was chasing. I didn't witness that at the time but apparently it ended up in some trees. This would further support the wind speed estimates of 50-60mph.

UPDATE 2: I drove by there on 6/25/2010 and also saw further damage from this storm. I saw numerous pine trees snapped no more then 200 feet from the location this video was taken. You don't see them fall in this video because of where the camera is pointing and because of the low visibility due to torrential rain with the wind. This evidence suggests a microburst as the snapped trees were only in a small area.
