It is very unfortunate and saddening that Don Harman passed away on Tuesday evening, November 29th. He will be greatly missed among many chasers in the area. He was as friendly and happy in everyday life as he appeared on the morning news here.

In 2008 he pulled us out of a ditch after the Glen Elder storm and was downright giddy to have gotten the best views and video of a tornado his entire life. Their footage that day was spectacular.

He loved weather and chasing as much as anyone here, and he'll be greatly missed.

Here is the statement from the station. My sincerest condolences to everyone who knew him.

It is very sad news, anytime of course, but especially around the holidays. My sympathies to all who knew him.

I noticed this at the bottom of one story:

"A memorial fund has been established in Harman's name that would benefit Kansas City charities. The fund was established in a way that captures Harman's sense of humor.

Donations may be made care of Tightwad Bank, 1160 SE Highway 7, Tightwad, MO 64735."

Yes, there really is a Tightwad Bank! :-)

Definitely sad news. I don't watch Fox 4 much but always enjoyed him when I did. Going to be missed in the KC area for sure.

This is a really touching video and explanation of what was happening. Seems like a familiar story, and like a lot of others, what he allowed people to see on the surface was not an accurate depiction of what was going on inside.

All of the weather staff at the station have been great to work with when it came to chasers. Joe Lauria is a member here and frequently visits ST during active weather periods. I like and respect all of them and Joe and Don were always particularly great when it came to chasing, as they have been regular storm chasers themselves. Can't help but feel terrible about what folks at the station are going through this week, but wish everyone there well as they cope with things.
