• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Des Moines Radar Not In Storm Mode???

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem as me with the Des Moines radar (or KDMX) not being in storm mode or in other words only updating every 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes? I'm using GRLevel3 with Allison House. I've also tried the standard servers instead of Allison House but had the same issue. Doesn't really make sense that they wouldn't be in 'storm mode' since they are talking severe weather in the area...

I've had many occurences of KDMX not working correctly. It prompted a note to the KFSD site, they sent me a note back saying everything is checking out correctly with KMDX. But I have had issues with KMDX several times - no one knows the answer and the NWS always claims that everythink is OK and online. But frankly, it has not been the case. Too many instances of KMDX - for me - have been far less than consistant. I don't what else to say. Maybe a note to Umsheid at KDDC may help out - who knows?

Just two cents...

How do you know it's not working correctly? It might be working and displaying just fine for the folks in the WFO. However, there could be a problem with the feed to outside users somewhere along the line. I don't mean Allison House or some other server. I'm talking about the data that is going to those providers.

It's perfectly reasonable that the radar itself could be operating just fine and within the correct parameters.

Right. It was a poor choice of words. What you said is what I was referring to. If it was the feed, then how is one to know at my end? Not to mention the fact that it only seems to happen with KMDX. Why is that the case? Doesn't seem to happen with any other radar site. You see; this is why I said what I did...

A quick quiz question: What is the very first thing you should do when you begin analyzing any piece of meteorological data? The answer to this question will tell you how you will know if there is a problem with the feed.

Congratulations!

I didn't notice any problems with DMX. They were in 32 to see boundaries, storms started, they moved to 212. They stay in 32 a lot longer than other places and I think that's a GOOD thing! Get the best data you can before the storms start...

That's another thing. Most offices change their VCPs manually. It was quite possible that the WFO simply had not switched yet for some reason or another.
